  5. I'm not a blogger but my advice is to be honest in your reviewing. I'm skeptical of bloggers who never dislike a book! I often use reviews to make my purchases.

  12. As I'm not a blogger myself, I'm not sure I should be giving advice...but as a reader of book blogs, I can tell you that my favourites are the ones where I feel I get honest reviews. I don't want to read that every single book you pick up is absolutely fantastic without any flaws as this certainly isn't my experience as an avid reader. I want to know what you really thought of the book - why you loved it or didn't love it.

  15. I am a follower. Please count me in. Not a blogger, but like concise reviews. Despite what some publishers think, book buyers DO read blogs and purchase books based on reviews. Also enjoy reading author interviews. All the best in your new endeavor.

  17. I, too, would like honest reviews. I would prefer to hear that you didn't care for a book and why rather than you finding something nice to say about it so you won't hurt the authors feelings.

I would also like to be able to receive your posts by email so that I won't miss anything!

  27. +2 as far as advice for being a good blogger... I'd say post completely honest reviews is the most important thing. Don't be afraid to be blunt, and don't be afraid of disappointing anyone by a bad review. It happens.

  34. +2 I agree about honest reviews but I also appreciate constructive criticism. Even if someone hates a book they don't need to be cruel about it.

I've only been blogging for a year but I've found that maintaining relationships in the community to be invaluable. I turn to others for support, advice and friendship. While others are kind enough to comment on my blog I try to visit and comment on others' as well. This is a wonderful group and I've learned a lot from every person I've met. Best of luck!

  40. Not that I am a know it all when it comes to book blogging but here's my tip which I hope is helpful:

Be sure to update often and do NOT have ads all over the place. I myself need some because I have really expensive tuition to pay so I get that it may be needed but don't have it all over the place and not too many because that is really annoying to readers. A good way to figure out how to make your blog better is to think what makes you love another person's blog so much. I'm not saying plagiarize their ideas, definitely not that, I'm just saying, use them as an example. If you like how they do this and that then try something similar. Like "oh I noticed my favorite blog does this really cool thing on her/his blog, I should try doing something really cool like that too" I hope that makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I posted here

    *crosses fingers*

    Oh and another tip:
Be honest in your reviews. I always read tons of blogs and make purchases based on many of them, especially the ones I trust. It's somewhat hard to tell but eventually I who's being honest or not. I know when one is lying when they for example give 5 stars to EVERYTHING they read. That may be possible if their rating system is something like "5 stars to all the books I read" or something so just check out their rating system. teenreads.com for example give 5 stars to every single book they review which to me is very dishonest. I would never read a blog by them for that reason.

I wish you tons of luck! :)

My advice is to be honest about the book. If it wasn't your cup of tea, please let us know. I can always tell when I reviewer disliked a book but is holding back from saying so in the review.
